Xiaomi has revealed plans to replace its longstanding Android skin, MIUI, with a new operating system called "HyperOS." The announcement was made on Weibo and Twitter/X, emphasizing that HyperOS will serve as the foundation for Xiaomi's smartphones and other devices. Xiaomi aims to create a comprehensive ecosystem for people, cars, and families, with HyperOS at its core.

While the company claims that HyperOS will bear no resemblance to MIUI, specific details about the user interface remain undisclosed. Nevertheless, Xiaomi has confirmed that HyperOS will gradually replace MIUI on existing devices, starting with the Xiaomi 14 series.
HyperOS is not an entirely new operating system, as it has its roots in Android, similar to Huawei's HarmonyOS. Unlike Huawei, Xiaomi openly acknowledges this connection, describing HyperOS as being "based on the integration of the deeply evolved Android and the self-developed Vela system," with a complete rewrite of the underlying architecture.
The introduction of HyperOS raises questions about how it will differentiate itself from Android and what impact it will have on Xiaomi devices sold outside of China. While the Xiaomi 14 series is expected to launch in China later this year, the global implications of this new operating system remain to be seen.
