Chinese Gaming Market Sees Notable Growth in August 2023
Gamma Data's August 2023 industry report reveals significant growth in China's gaming market. The actual sales revenue reached 29.226 billion CNY (4.53 billion USD), up 2.15% month-over-month and 46.08% year-over-year. Mobile gaming was a significant contributor, registering an actual sales revenue of 22.851 billion CNY (3.54 billion USD), an increase of 3.35% month-over-month and a staggering 63.73% year-over-year. Seasonal summer and Qixi Festival (Chinese Valentine's Day) promotions were cited as driving factors for the increase.
On the other hand, the client-based game market in China garnered 5.604 billion CNY (870 million USD) in revenue, a 1.60% decline month-over-month but a 6.92% growth year-over-year. This decline was attributed to fewer monthly activities from popular titles like "CrossFire" and "Dungeon & Fighter". Despite the monthly dip, year-over-year growth remained positive, buoyed by strong performances from cornerstone games like "League of Legends."
A significant development in the mobile gaming sector was the launch of the new game "MapleStory M," which generated 500 million CNY in revenue. The report also highlighted the month-to-month growth of last month's new release "COA."
Notably, the report covers key markets, including the United States, Japan, South Korea, and Hong Kong.
