One Piece, via Netflix
Good news, One Piece fans—Season 2 is officially in the works! Announced by Netflix and confirmed by Eiichiro Oda himself (via Transponder Snail, naturally), the live-action series will continue the treasure-seeking voyages of Monkey D. Luffy and crew. Season 1 was lauded for its faithful adaptation, amassing 37.8 million views in less than two weeks and earning a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The crew is setting sail again in the Grand Line, and this time, fans are buzzing about the likely introduction of Tony Tony Chopper, hinted at by Oda.
While the industry is currently navigating the choppy waters of SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, Oda assures fans that work on the scripts is underway. As for what to expect, the end of Season 1 teased the arrival of Baroque Works, a criminal organization likely to play a significant role in the upcoming season. Showrunner Steve Maeda has noted that Easter eggs and setup for future plotlines were carefully planted in the first season.
The show is a collaboration between Shueisha, Tomorrow Studios, and Netflix, with Matt Owens and Steven Maeda serving as writers and executive producers. If you haven't caught up yet, Season 1 is streaming now on Netflix.
