Monster Energy, the energy drink company, has filed trademark opposition against various games and trademarks bearing the name "Monster" in Japan. The company has requested the Japan Patent Office (JPO) to cancel the trademark registration of various trademarks containing the name "Monster".

J-PlatPat, a patent information platform, has confirmed 134 objections filed by Monster Energy Company to date. The objections include popular titles such as "Pokémon" and "Monster Hunter". The objections argue that the name "Monster" in the titles gives rise to the concept of "monsters" and may cause confusion as to the origin of the product. Monster Energy Company has also filed objections to the trademark of the smartphone app "Monster Strike" and the abbreviation "Monst". The JPO has ruled that there is no risk of confusion as to the source of the product and maintained the trademark registration in both cases.
