Creative Assembly Responds to Community Outcry, Slashes "Total War: Pharaoh" Price
Creative Assembly, the developers behind the Total War series, have publicly addressed recent community grievances, leading to a heartfelt apology from Vice President Roger Collum and a significant price cut for their latest game, "Total War: Pharaoh."
In a candid blog post entitled "A Message from Total War's Leadership Team," Collum extended a direct apology to their player base for the studio's recent missteps. Acknowledging the confusion and distrust that have taken root among fans, Collum emphasized that restoring community trust would be a challenging journey requiring time and dedicated effort.
To initiate this process, Creative Assembly has announced a price reduction for "Total War: Pharaoh" from 60 USD to 40 USD, removing the more expensive Deluxe and Dynasty editions from sale. Players who have already purchased any version of the game will receive a refund for the price difference via Steam.
The studio's actions come after significant criticism over their DLC practices, particularly the high cost and perceived lack of content. This discontent had been exacerbated by a controversial statement regarding community discussion rights, which many felt reflected the studio's dismissive attitude towards criticism.
Furthermore, Creative Assembly has committed to releasing the first DLC for "Total War: Pharaoh" for free in early 2024 and to update the recent "Shadows of Change" DLC for "Total War: Warhammer III" with additional content at no cost.
The release of the upcoming "Thrones of Decay" DLC has been pushed to April 2024 to ensure it meets quality expectations and does not repeat past errors.
Collum concluded by reiterating the studio's regret over past actions and by pledging a renewed commitment to transparency, consistency, and responsiveness in their relationship with the community. The studio promises to act swiftly on future mistakes and hopes to regain fan trust through demonstrable actions in the upcoming months.
