Fede Alvarez & "Alien"
Disney made a big announcement on Tuesday, revealing that the seventh installment of the popular "Alien" series will be released on August 16, 2024, through 20th Century Studios. The film will be written and directed by Fede Alvarez, who is known for his work on horror movies like "Don't Breathe" and the 2013 version of "Evil Dead." Ridley Scott, the original director of "Alien," will produce the film. The cast includes Cailee Spaeny, Isabela Merced, David Jonsson, and Archie Renaux.
Disney also made some other changes to its upcoming slate, including delays to most of its Marvel films due to the ongoing writers' strike. "Blade" and "Thunderbolts" were pushed back to later in 2024, with "Thunderbolts" becoming Disney's first holiday MCU release. "Deadpool III" was moved up to Marvel's traditional early May release slot. The next two "Avengers" films, "The Kang Dynasty" and "Secret Wars," have been pushed back to May 2026 and 2027, respectively.
Additionally, Disney announced significant delays to James Cameron's "Avatar" series, with the third installment now set for release in December 2025 and the following two installments pushed back to 2029 and 2031. The company also revealed several new slate additions, including a live-action remake of "Moana" starring Dwayne Johnson, set for release in June 2025, and an untitled "Star Wars" film set for release in December 2026. Rami Malek's "The Amateur" will hit theaters in November 2024.
