Old Meme Went Viral Again in China in Human’s Desperate Fight Against AI

The once popular "finish the dinosaur" meme has gone viral on Chinese social media again, and the reason behind it is that  people are trying to prove that AI cannot replace humans in the creation of art.

As a quite famous interactive meme, “finish the dinosaur” was often used to create everything but a dinosaur. People love connecting the dinosaur's head and feet using other popular meme characters or even comedians IRL.

However, this dinosaur meme has returned in China in a more weird and imaginative way. People are trying to make new drawings to prove that their creativity is still yet to be matched by AI.

The creation of such wild works has a lot to do with the recent popularity of AI-generated art. Since AI painting began to gain attention earlier this year, the industry has been evolving at a very high speed.

From only being able to generate abstract paintings with vague art styles based on lines of text, AI painting is now possible to learn and complete delicate paintings based on different keywords and art styles tailored to one specific artist, and it can even complete an unfinished sketch automatically by searching for the closest art style and content in its enormous database.

AI-generated art has evolved at such an alarming rate that it has caused massive debate, with many believing that in the near future, AI will completely replace artists in certain fields.

At the same time, there are also some who believe that AI cannot learn from the unpredictability of humans in creating works of art, like the Chinese artists who join the "finish the dinosaur" memes on social media. No matter how AI evolves, this uncertainty will be preserved forever as a uniquely human characteristic.
