Sensor Tower today released the ranking of Chinese mobile games’ revenue for August. This article will dive into some of the particulars behind the numbers.
In mid-August, version 3.1 of HoYoverse's Genshin Impact was officially launched. With the new characters, storyline and events, the overseas revenue stayed strong this month, reigning at the top of the Chinese mobile game revenue ranking.
With the opening of the new season and event updates, the overseas revenue of Tencent's PUBG Mobile grew 21.2% Year-over-Year in August, moving up three spots to No. 2 on the revenue list. As of August 2022, the game's total overseas revenue has surpassed 3.6 billion USD, with the U.S., Japan and Saudi Arabia being the highest-grossing overseas markets.
Tower of Fantasy, a light science fiction open world RPG jointly launched by Tencent and Perfect World, was released in overseas markets on August 11. Since its launch, the game's revenue has been rapidly climbing, and its overseas revenue exceeded 44 million USD in August, ranking No.5 on the list. The Japanese market contributed about 42% of the overseas revenue.
Thanks to the game's content update in early August and the launch of Season 7 at the end of the month, revenue for Call of Duty Mobile grew 29.1% Year-over-Year, making the game No.6 on the list. Since its launch in October 2019, CODM's total overseas revenue has surpassed 1.55 billion USD.
