Tencent increased its shares in FromSoftware to 16.25% through its subsidiary Sixjoy Hong Kong and is now the second largest shareholder, following Kadokawa Corporation.
Meanwhile, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s shares in FromSoftware increased to 14.09%. The investments from Tencent and SIE were valued at around 36.4 billion yen (~260 million USD) via a third-party allotment of new shares.
Kadokawa Corporation remains the largest shareholder, with 69.66% of shares.
FromSoftware will invest in developing more powerful game IP to strengthen its development capabilities and will seek to establish a publishing network for the growing global market, the statement said.
FromSoftware was founded in 1994 and was acquired by Kadokawa Group in 2014. Its latest title Elden Ring has sold more than 16.6 million copies worldwide.
