On July 6, the Supreme People's Court of Beijing announced a judgment related to the game industry. A former deputy director of product operations of a game company in Beijing, together with the product manager of the same company and a third party, took advantage of his position to generate game props and other items for sale and profit illegally.

The two insiders were both taken into custody on August 13, 2020, and were locked up till the case was closed this March. The deputy director was sentenced to 6 years and a half, while the product manager was sentenced to 3 years with four-year probation. Both of them committed job embezzlement.

According to the confessions, the two had been contacting a third party to sell game props as early as November 2017. Over time, the team profited over 3,800,000 CNY, with the deputy director getting over 2,000,000 CNY alone.

Shockingly, the two criminals were relatively young. According to the judgment, the deputy director was 35 years old, while the project manager was only 28 years old. Both of them are supposed to have stellar careers in the game industry; instead, they chose to put an end to it single-handedly.

The Game Industry is profitable and is getting even more significant daily. Meanwhile, job embezzlement has not been a single case. Not only were their lessons learned from the industry practitioners, but also companies are paying more attention to information security. The industry must thrive.
