Game Director Joe Blackburn will Exit Bungie
Joe Blackburn, the current game director for Destiny 2, has announced his departure from Bungie, set for next month, ahead of the release of The Final Shape expansion. Blackburn's exit comes as the game approaches a crucial phase of development, with the upcoming End-to-End playtest signaling a shift towards final touches and bug fixes for the much-anticipated expansion. He will pass the directorial baton to Tyson Green, a seasoned Bungie veteran with over two decades at the company, known for his contributions to both the Halo series and Destiny.
Blackburn, who first joined Bungie in 2015, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to work on Destiny 2, emphasizing his ongoing support for the team and excitement to continue enjoying the game as a player. His decision to leave marks the end of a significant chapter in Destiny 2's development journey, with The Final Shape poised to conclude the game's current narrative arc on February 27. Following Blackburn's departure, the game's storytelling will transition to an episodic format, promising a fresh approach to Destiny 2's evolving universe.
