Skull and Bones Sets Sail for Long-Term Success Amid Challenges, Dev Believes
Ubisoft’s upcoming title, Skull and Bones, is set to sail into the gaming world on February 16, and despite its turbulent journey to launch, senior producer Neven Dravinski remains confident in the game’s future. Developed as a live service game, Skull and Bones has faced development challenges and delays, but the team believes they have crafted a game that will captivate players for the long term.
Speaking to Well-Played, Dravinski emphasized the game’s commitment to key elements such as naval combat, co-op play, and a rich lore that intertwines with an engaging economy and progression system. He believes these are the "ingredients for creating fun, engaging content that people will always come back to.”
Player feedback has been a cornerstone in shaping Skull and Bones, with the development team leveraging insights from insider programs, betas, and user tests. Dravinski highlights this collaborative approach as crucial for tailoring the game to community preferences.
In its first year post-launch, Skull and Bones will unfold over four seasons, introducing new World Events, Pirate Lords, sea monsters, and other exciting content. With an open beta scheduled from February 7 to 11 on all platforms, players will soon get a taste of this high-seas adventure on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Ubisoft is banking on Skull and Bones to be more than just a fleeting voyage, aiming for it to be a staple in players’ gaming libraries.
