Call of Duty 2025 Rumors to Revive Black Ops Series with Semi-Futuristic Sequel
The Call of Duty franchise is set to take a leap into the near future with its 2025 installment, currently codenamed ‘Saturn’. Insider Gaming reports that this upcoming title will serve as a direct sequel to the highly successful Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, transporting players to around 2030, five years after the setting of its predecessor.
This marks the series' return to a futuristic setting, a theme last explored in 2018’s Black Ops 4. Call of Duty 2025 is expected to bring back fan-favorite characters while introducing a new antagonist, following the demise of Menendez in Black Ops 2.
Plans for the game include remastered maps from Black Ops 2, initially set for release at launch, similar to the approach taken with Modern Warfare 2 maps in Modern Warfare 3. However, recent changes suggest a blend of new and remastered maps for its release.
The development of Call of Duty 2025 is still in the early stages, with significant changes anticipated. The game is rumored to feature an updated movement system, the return of the ‘pick 10’ create-a-class system, the gunfight game mode, and another year of round-based zombies.
The decision to develop Call of Duty 2025 as a distinct entity rather than a continuation of Black Ops Gulf War indicates a fresh approach for the franchise. This move, potentially fueled by nostalgia and the success of Black Ops 2 (nearly 30 million units sold), aims to blend familiar elements with new and innovative content for fans and newcomers alike.
