The 19th Asian Games will be held in Hangzhou from September 10 to 25, 2022. As one of the esports events, Game For Peace, also known as PUBG Mobile, is developing a new version of the game with wholly revamped mechanics and gameplay to match the peaceful competition concept of the Asian Games.
As a Battle Royale game, Game For Peace contains many gunplay elements and gory graphics. Such gameplay is not suitable for international games that preach peace. Previously, League of Legends was not established as an Olympic event for similar reasons. However, according to the latest information from the official website Road To Asian Games, Game For Peace is developing a new version prepared for the Asian Games, which will feature target shooting and cross-country racing as the main game content. In each game, there are 16 players in total, with four players working together as a team. The competition consists of multiple stages, and there are target shooting sections to be completed for each stage. After completing the shooting missions, the team needs to drive a vehicle to complete the track as well. The ranking will be determined according to the order in which the participating teams arrive at the finishing line.
Many players are currently questioning the need for Game For Peace to be used as a sports event after changing its original gameplay, with some saying it can be simply replaced with a random racing game in the market.
At present, Game For Peace and China, the host of this Asian Games, has not made any official statement on this version of the game or the eSports project. Sources say that South Korea and India have already started to select teams for this “peaceful war”.
