On August 28th, the Chinese dating sim mobile game Light and Night announced that one of the game’s popular characters, Sariel, had been invited to an international contemporary art exhibition held in the Louvre Museum in October. Though Light and Night didn’t explain how a game character can participate in an art exhibition, the news quickly went viral on Weibo with over 90,000 reposts and 150,000 likes.
However, some players soon found out that this art exhibition would not actually be held in the Louvre Museum but in a shopping mall called au Carrousel du Louvre. The shopping mall’s name refers to two nearby sites, the Louvre Museum and the Place du Carrousel. Today, Light and Night released an announcement stating that it was a misunderstanding caused by the Chinese translation of the word “Salon”. The Chinese name of the art exhibition had mistakenly used the “Louvre Museum” instead of the name of the shopping mall. Light and Night also emphasized it has not collaborated with the Louvre Museum in any way, and they will be more careful with these details next time.
This statement has also polarized Light and Night players. Some of them understand the situation and hope that the company can focus on the upcoming special birthday event for Sariel on September 1st, while others are outraged by the company and suspect it used the Louvre Museum to attract more people to the game.
