English-Speaking Vtuber Makes Over 150K USD in 2.4 Hours on Bilibili

There are lively discussions on China’s social media about how English-Speaking Vtubers have had massive financial success on Bilibili recently. The discussions are mainly focused on Shoto, a Vtuber who only began uploading to Bilbili recently. According to darkflame.ga, a streamer statistic and analysis website in China, Shoto made 1,003,926 CNY (equals 150K USD) from his 2.4-hour-long livestream.

Shoto, or Shxtou, is a male independent English-speaking Vietnamese-American Vtuber. He was mainly streaming on Twitch. However, some enthusiasts recorded his streams and re-uploaded them on Bilibili with Chinese subtitles, making Shoto popular on Bilibili as well.

Shoto joined Bilibili in May and uploaded his first video. It was a 50-second video of Shoto “woofingand making dog noises; surprisingly, the video got 2.8 million views and ranked TOP 1 on Bilibili on that day.

He started his first livestream on Bilibili on June 19th. Shoto had the highest revenue on that day of anyone on Bilibili, with second place earning revenue of 180,175 CNY.

About 60% of the revenue came from subscribing fees; he got 2679 paid subscribers and is currently ranked third on the “Streamers with the most paid subscribers” list on Bilibili at this moment.

Shoto is not the only English-Speaking Vtuber who has seen great success on Bilibili. Vox Akuma, a male English Vtuber from Nijisanji, also made 1 million CNY from his first stream on Bilibili on May 6th. That stream lasted about 1.7 hours, and the revenue was more than the total monthly income he made on Youtube in April.

Though some people felt this surge in donations and subscriptions was unbelievable and impulsive, fans of these individuals claimed they were supporting the people who have worked hard for years to entertain others.
