Speculation Over Elon Musk's "Cameo" in Cyberpunk 2077's Corpo Prologue Gets Debunked
A subtle tweak in Cyberpunk 2077's 2.0 update has ignited a wave of speculation among fans. The change involved swapping out a background NPC in the corpo prologue, and some players are convinced the original character was meant to be a cameo of tech magnate Elon Musk.
The rumor gained traction due to a recent biography of Musk by Walter Isaacson, which states Musk visited CD Projekt's office armed with a 200-year-old gun, seeking a cameo in the game. The inclusion of Musk was never confirmed, however.
When a tweet emerged showcasing before-and-after screenshots of the NPC with the caption, "Oh my god they removed the Elon Musk cameo from the Corpo opening in Cyberpunk 2077," senior quest designer Patrick K. Mills felt compelled to clarify. Mills tweeted, "That wasn't Elon Musk, it looks nothing like him. Who came up with this nonsense?"
Although Mills couldn't confirm or deny Musk's reported visit to the studio, complete with antique firearm, he reiterated that the NPC in question is not meant to be a digital Musk. "I wasn't there, I don't know," Mills stated, "even if that's true, that doesn't mean this random Japanese guy is supposed to be him."
While the alleged Musk cameo has grabbed headlines, it’s worth noting that Cyberpunk 2077’s version 2.0 brings many more substantial changes, from revamped police mechanics to overhauled skill trees, all detailed in the full patch notes.
