On March 28th, Genshin Impact revealed the picture of the new character Yelan. Although we still don’t know their rarities and abilities, we can still get some background information about her from the 2.6 version’s new stories.

A mysterious person who claims to work for the Ministry of Civil Affairs
Yelan's identity has always been a mystery.
Like a phantom, she often appears in various guises at the center of events, and disappears before the storm stops.#GenshinImpact
1. Yelan is a hydro archer
In the 2.6 version’s stories, Yelan used to snipe enemies from long distances with an arrow and bow to save the player. The dark blue arrow may lead to the fact that she’s a hydro user. That’s also her first showing up in the game.
2. She’s a high-level official of Liyue
From the dialogues of other characters about Yelan, she may be a high-level official with a secretive background. In Ynafei's dialogues, she mentioned that Yalan is an official of the Ministry of Civil Affairs of Liyue and has helped her solve difficult cases. Keqing's voice lines also said that Yelan's ancestors used to work for the Seven Stars of Liyue, and she often provides important information to the Ministry of Civil Affairs. Therefore, it is likely that Yelan is in charge of scouting and intelligence gathering in the Ministry of Civil Affairs.
3. She’s investigating the Chasm
Xiao noticed Yelan was investigating the Chasm alone, and she found something. “She must be someone of rare skills” As a fighting master known for his combat skills in Liyue, Xiao’s opinion also illustrates the skill of Yelan.
4. Same person, different faces
Yelan left an entirely different impression every time I saw her. Xingqiu described her in this way. Appearing as a guest, Yelan is mature and stable, a gentle older sister, but Xingqiu reveals that when he sees her elsewhere, it is a completely different impression. In the description of another character, Heavy Cloud, Yelan is a cautious and always vigilant person who secretly takes down the names of strangers and investigates their backgrounds.
5. She enjoys spicy foods.
This fun fact comes from Xiangling, the chief in Liyue. Unlike her appearance, Xiangling found out that Yelan enjoys spicy food, and she can handle the most spice out of all Xiangling's customers. She even started taking bites of raw Jueyun chilies because the spicy dishes weren’t enough for her.
6. She’s a trustworthy person
For Ningguang, the ruler of Liyue right now, Yelan is a trustworthy and interesting person. Ningguang did not reveal Yelan's background, but it is rumored that Yelan is absent from work 70% of the time every year, and the person who gives her this privilege is Ningguang.
