Sensor Tower Store Intelligence data shows that Genshin Impact, developed by the Chinese unicorn developer miHoYo, has gained approximately 2 billion dollars across both the App Store and Google Play within just one year of its launch. The data also shows Gneshin Impact ranked as the No. 1 top grossing mobile game worldwide (excluding China), following by Pokémon Go and Roblox.
Genshin Impact has had unstoppable popularity. The game reached its first 1 billion dollar income only within the first 6 months of its launch, making it the most successful mobile game launch ever. Other popular titles, such as Pokémon Go and Roblox, took 9 to 10 months respectively to reach their 1-billion-dollar milestone.
Genshin Impact also ranks as the top grossing mobile game in the Overseas market, and the third top grossing mobile game if to consider Chinese market statistics. While China accounts for 28.6% of Genshin Impact’s global revenue, Japan and United States also make up 23.7% and 21% of the market share, making Genshin impact one of the most promising titles for Chinese developer’s global venture.
But Genshin Impact does face strong competitors within China. Tencent’s Honor of Kings and PUBG Moblie are the top 2 grossing mobile games worldwide, earning 2.9 and 2.8 billion USD within the year of Genshin Impact’s launch. Since China’s mobile game market has expanded drastically in recent years, it is probably crucial for Genshin Impact to also grab the home advantage in the future.
