Tower defense games don’t usually have a roguelike style in their gameplay. The chaotic nature of procedurally generated maps does not normally fit well with the organized design of typical tower defense maps. But Refactor combines the two genres seamlessly into one creation. The Chinese indie game, developed by GAGA and published by LightOn Game, will be released on March 29th on Steam.
Like in Plants vs. Zombies, players can set up defensive towers against increasingly difficult waves of monsters, including boss enemies.
Besides this basic gameplay, Refactor enables players to place and link suitable cubes, interrupt the enemies’ routes and set traps for them.
To strengthen the power of the towers, players can also compound the Wuxing elements and create multiple new abilities for the towers.
Level-ups will unlock new tower formulas and new enemies. There is also a survival mode in this game.
The game was a Best Student Game Winner on 2021 indie Play, the award show for Chinese indie game developers.
