According to Axios, the development team of Assassin’s Creed Red says that they will work with consultants and Ubisoft’s own company in Japan for the sake of cultural authenticity and sensitivity. Assassin’s Creed Red is designed to be a 200-hour chapter in the series’ story, which is set in Feudal Japan.

Ubisoft claimed that it is unclear to what extent the consultants will be able to shape the game, but since the Red project is led by the studio in Quebec and has a white creative director, they do not want to be accused of “cultural tourism”, a criticism increasingly leveled against Western game studios for how they present or appropriate foreign cultures.
The developers of Assassin’s Creed Red say that presenting cultural diversity is not a smooth process, often meeting resistance from the higher-ups. To aid in this, recently, Ubisoft has successfully formed a diversity, inclusion and accessibility team.
