Recently, a TRPG replay generation tool “活字引擎” (means “Movable Type Engine”) has appeared on Steam. The tool is created by a sole developer Neazle for Chinese TRPG enthusiasts and will be released “in one or two weeks.”
According to the steam page of the tool, the users can easily import their logs by copy-paste from an online chatroom or other sources. The toolkit provides multiple character portraits, 38 customizable AI voice actors, background images, and music. It could help a user with zero knowledge of programming or video editing to make a fully-voiced, visual-novel-style TRPG replay video, and they can upload it to social media afterward. Users who have special requirements could import their own visual or audio resources into the tool.
A GIF shared by the developer shows some functions of the tool.
TRPG was not quite popular in China until TRPG replay videos were shared on social media. In this case, instead of using actual dice and a game master’s screen, TRPG enthusiasts in China usually play a campaign on online chatrooms with Dice bots and later on share their replay videos with other enthusiasts.
A screenshot on Bilibili shows the modified Call of Cthulhu rule is one of the most popular TRPG rules on that platform.
The Steam version is version 3 of the tool. Many enthusiasts have used version 1 or 2 and uploaded their replay videos on Bilibili. They have highly praised the toolkit and thanked Neazle in their videos.
